| Background | Conventional health delivery approaches in Bastar, largely designed around facility-based care, often struggle to reach communities living in geographically and socially marginalized settings. Recognizing this, the Government of Chhattisgarh conceptualized the Mukhya Mantri Swasth Bastar Abhiyan (MSBA) as a people-centred approach built on a simple premise: healthcare should not wait for people to reach facilities - it must proactively reach people where they live. MSBA combines community outreach, mobile health service delivery, systematic screening, digital health enablement, referral pathways and coordinated administrative action to address last-mile healthcare challenges. This documentation is intended to capture not only the measurable achievements of MSBA, but also the processes, innovations, partnerships and human experiences that made the model work. |
| Objectives | Understand the evolution of MSBA from a government vision into a large-scale public health intervention. Document the systems, processes and innovations that enabled implementation in challenging geographic and social contexts. Assess reported outcomes, service delivery changes, implementation achievements and perceived effects associated with MSBA. Capture the experiences of patients, frontline workers, tribal communities and administrators who shaped the program. Develop a knowledge product that can inform replication and adaptation of similar models in other tribal, remote, aspirational and underserved areas. |
| Study Methods | The assessment is a mixed-methods exercise, not a study based solely on key informant interviews. It rests on three integrated strands: (i) secondary data review, (ii) primary qualitative research, and (iii) Synthesis. |
| Expected outcomes and use of results | The planned wors is to document the process of implement the process of the universal screening program in BAstar Chhattisgarh. Outcomes include: A) Report documenting the programmatic outcomes, service delivery changes, implementation achievements and perceived effects associated with MSBA. B) Recommendations for scale up of the of the program across the state of Chhattisgarh |
